Swapan Bhattacharya has been teaching with great passion and enthusiasm for more then twenty years. Passing on this passion to his disciples, exploring the rich tradition of Indian rhythm, discovering and appropriating the richness of sound, the language of the Tabla, expressing his feelings and engaging in various musical styles are all subjects and ways of teaching.
The "Tabla & Talim School" offers music lovers private Tabla lessons - the most popular Indian percussion instrument in the world. Classes are based on a teaching method, which is a modern adaptation of Guru-Shishya-Parampara (student-teacher-tradition). Teaching is customized to the needs, skill, and personality of each student.
The teaching method of the private TABLA classes and WORKSHOP's take place in the following languages:
Bengali, German, Hindi and English.
The Calcutta born artist Swapan Bhattacharya studied with Guru Pandit Shaymal Bose and became one of the internationally known tabla musicians of the recent years. As ambassador for the North Indian classical music, he wows his audience with virtuous and authentic performances and an incredible instinct for stand-alone musical cooperations. Swapan is a genius in this field, highly praised, honored and deeply revered.
For over twenty years, he was director of the "Institute for Classical Indian Music" in Hamburg - Germany , meanwhile again with main residence in Kolkata, he founded the "GHARANA PROJECT" in 2011. An intercultural Music project with artists from North India and Germany. Swapan as a international performer, visits Europe - special Germany every year for a series of concerts and workshops and promotes the exchange of various music genres cultures.
It is the teacher-disciple tradition in Indian religion and culture. From Sanskrit, shishya means "student of a guru" and parampara means "an uninterrupted succession". It is the lineage of passing knowledge from a succession of gurus to students through oral tradition.
